Learn Japanese at Home

These are the most used Japanese sentence patterns. I am trying to highlight the different parts of a sentence and match them with English ones. For Japanese Kanjis, I put them on the right side of the table. Anytime you need to review the Hiragana chart, it is at the bottom of the page.

• I am a Canadian.
  私 は カナダ人 です。
• I am not a American.
  私 は アメリカ人 で はありません。

• 私 = わたし = wa.ta.shi

• I am happy.
  私 は 幸福 です。
• I am not hungry.
  私 は 空腹 で はありません。

• 私 = わたし = wa.ta.shi
• 幸福 = 幸せ = しあわせ = shi.a.wa.se
• 空腹 = くうふく = ku.u.fu.ku

• I came from London.
  私 は ロンドン から 来ました。
• We came from Shanghai.
  私たち は 上海 から 来ました。

• 私 = わたし = wa.ta.shi
• 来 = き = ki
• 上海 = シャンハイ = sha.n.ha.i

• This is my teacher.
  こちら は 私 の 教師 です。
• This is not my sister.
  こちら は 私 の 姉妹 で はありません。

• 私 = わたし = wa.ta.shi
• 教師 = せんせい = se.n.se.i
• 姉妹 = しまい = shi.ma.i

• I want to go for shopping.
  買い物 に 行き たい。
• I do not want to go to the library.
  図書館 に 行き たくない。

• 買い物 = かいもの = ka.i.mo.no
  かいもの = 買いもの = 買物 = 買い物
• 行 = い = i
• 図書館 = としょかん = to.sho.ka.n

• I want to go by Shinkansen.
  新幹線 で 行き たい。
• I do not want to go by air.
  飛行機 で 行き たくない。

• 新幹線 = しんかんせん = shi.n.ka.n.se.n
• 行 = い = i
• 飛行機 = ひこうき = hi.ko.u.ki
